"All American Dog"
President Hoover
The Chinook breed is named after the famous lead sled dog of Antarctic explorer Arthur Walden of New Hampshire. Admiral Byrd had asked him to train a sled pulling team of dogs for work in his Antarctic expedition. These dogs were to become the backbone of his transportation.

HISTORY... Chinook was the name Arthur Walden gave to his lead dog. There were other breeds in his team, but Chinook led them all. He was strong, eager to lead, and made no mistakes. He was respected by both his animal workers and human masters. The dogs activities, were reported regularly to the newspapers of the day. Admiral Byrd was quoted, "That without these dogs his mission could never have been accomplished". An aging Chinook wandered off alone on the ice during a 1920's polar expedition and his body was never found. Chinook's obituary appeared on the front page of the New York Times. The Chinook was declared an "All American Dog" by President Hoover. They have been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records several times as the rarest breed in the world. Our breed has come close to extinction but has been brought back through a program of selective breeding.
PHILOSOPHY... There are varying philosophies in breeding Chinooks. Our philosophy has always been to be faithful to the original Walden dogs. Many people who see our dogs say they are the benchmark of the breed and they look very much like the originals. We are trying our best to breed back the strength, stamina and excellent disposition that the original Chinook had. We strive to bring back the historical look of the Chinook while maintaining its health and temperament. PEDIGREE ANALYSIS... HEALTH... We don't have all the answers, but if we are patient our knowledge will increase. Each generation of our line is important. The information that has been reported to us regarding the health history of our dog's ancestors is favorable and shows we have been getting excellent results. We will continue to keep track of our bloodline and successful breeding program. KNOWLEDGE...
